death at sea—she's hooked.: Race, celebrity, gender, and rape culture: What we refuse to see

carnivaloftherandom:

Last year, this incident occurred, we’ve recently heard of Alec Baldwin being stalked by a woman, and most people are familiar with Rebecca Schaeffer’s murder by a stalker-fan, or Paula Abdul’s stalker committing suicide.

Last week, Wil Smith was physically…

A few hours ago, I landed in Los Angeles, turned on my phone, and confirmed what you already know. Sony Pictures Television is replacing me as showrunner on Community, with two seasoned fellows that I’m sure are quite nice - actually, I have it on good authority they’re…

A Community without Dan Harmon? I don’t see how that’ll work. Smooth move, Sony.

How did I never realize that over an hour and fifteen minutes pass in Alien before you realize that Ripley is the main character/emotional anchor of the film?

(As far as I’m concerned, it happens in this scene).

Can’t say just how many times I’ve probably seen this…

Okay, so I’m not a big romantic comedy person, but this movie is pretty fun.

Also, I used this song once in a Hyperstudio presentation about mitosis.

I have noticed that one of the slight cultural/generational differences between women my age and women a few years younger seems to be that I love this movie, and they actually think that Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights is worth watching. Totally not judging! (Judging)

ALSO, slightly related, because this song is used in Badlands as well: are there really no high-quality torrents (like, >1GB, since I like it enough to want to be able to look at its beauty and do screencaps and other dork stuff) of Badlands available? Am I going to have to buy it like a responsible human? Am I just not looking in the right places? Please advise.

From The Mind, a LIFE Science Library Book, by John Rowan Wilson and the Editors of TIME-LIFE Books. (1964, reprinted in 1971)

I would have been obsessed with this book if I’d had it as a child.

“Routes for Musical Messages

The picture on the opposite page is a photograph of a pianist. On it have been sketched the two hemispheres of the brain, a network of nerves throughout the arms, and a connecting length of spinal cord. The system of billions of cells and miles of fibers can relay many messages at once…”

My other blog is way more popular reblog-wise than this blog, even though it has ~1/3 the number of followers Judith Smutler has. I am glad that you all like reading about my stupid life and watching me liveblog 30-year-old movies.
